Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival are delighted to present Gallus, A Scottish Jazz Weekend.
This year, our weekend programme has been curated by pianist, Fergus McCreadie. He brings excitement and thrilling musicianship to everything he does, and for many, he’s the high profile leader of the new Scottish jazz.
“It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to Gallus, a Scottish Jazz Weekend; a three-day celebration of the burgeoning scene in Scotland today. To simply be a part of this scene is an absolute privilege, so I’m sure you’ll understand the great joy I’ve had in selecting a line-up that broadly represents modern Scottish Jazz as it stands today. You’ll also understand it was very tricky to only pick a few concerts out of such a wide and diverse scene! But I think a wide array of angles are presented in this programme, from new innovations to established projects, a younger vanguard of players rising up to sit alongside some of Scotland’s finest jazz exponents. What you’ll notice most is an intention to innovate, communicate and celebrate in this programme - new music is at the forefront, but as always there is a debt to be paid to the deep tradition of this music. No matter what your tastes, if you’re a traditionalist or a modernist I believe there’s something for everyone in this very exciting programme.
Gallus, a Scottish Jazz Weekend is supported by the PLACE programme, funded by the Scottish Government and City of Edinburgh Council
