Chicago Blues sparked the British blues boom in the 1960s – the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall, and hundreds more “blues-rock” bands – and it was Muddy Waters who personified Blues from Chicago.
Mud Morganfield can sound uncannily like his father and his band salutes Muddy Waters’ heritage and proves that the old songs can sound as fresh as they were 50 years ago.
The singer is joined in Edinburgh in a double bill with a Chicago blues legend, John Primer. Originally from Mississippi, he’s been instrumental in shaping the sound of Chicago blues, for many years, as bandleader and guitarist for Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Magic Slim & The Teardrops, and with his own bands.
The band playing with John Primer will host harmonica and vocalist Brandon Santini – widely regarded as the future of the blues harmonica and Scottish musicians Richard O’Donnell (keys), Keith Johnston (bass) and Jim Walker (drums).
