Jazz 100 - Tommy Sampson 23 Jun 2017

Jazz 100 - Tommy Sampson image

Scotland’s King of Swing was just one of Tommy Sampson’s accolades. Originally a cornetist with the Salvation Army he developed a talent for arranging and from 1947 his orchestra was the UK’s standard bearer. He worked in television and nurtured dozens of talents, including the great baritone saxophonist Joe Temperley, before playing his last gig at this festival in 2008.

Eliot Murray salutes Sampson at this year's Festival. Read more about the show here!

Listen to Sampson play live in Edinburgh back in 2006!
