“Seeing The Blind Boys of Alabama in concert is part living history, part concert” (The Washington Post). The Blind Boys of Alabama have the rare distinction of being recognised around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators. They’re probably the best known gospel singers in the world, defining the tradition in the 20th century, and almost single-handedly created a new gospel sound for the 21st century. There’s nothing quite like the uplifting power they produce – a unique musical experience. Opening the show, The Como Mamas are three lifelong Gospel singers from the small town of Como Mississippi. As on their new, critically acclaimed Daptone album ‘Get an Understanding’ there are only three instruments – the voices of Ester Mae Smith, Angela Taylor, and Della Daniels – and it’s so powerful you don’t need anything else.
